The Poet--Don't Shelve Twelve

Don’t Shelve Twelve
Twelve is near gone...cannot return,
but from it there is much to learn.
Choose leaders well, and note each deed,
unseat them if they but impede,
for we must progress now...with speed.

The Poet--Good Riddance, Twelve

Good Riddance, Twelve

We soon will say “Goodbye” to Twelve...
and few are sad to see it go.
Of late, we’ve had some rotten years,
but this one earned the old-heave-ho.

The Poet--The Season

The Christmas Season

Food and gifts to needy sent…
the kinship felt seems evident.
We send them our goodwill and love
and wish them blessings from above…
but have we summed the times this year
we offered them our love and cheer?

This season let us firm resolve
to grieving neighbor’s problems solve.
And from this day let us firm vow
provide them food and clothes and plow…
Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas ham
are but two meals for grieving Man.

The Poet--December 21, 2012

December 21, 2012
The Mayans say this day we die
for we face Armageddon...
been said so many times before
my legs have run 'till leaden.
This time I'll stay right where I am,
and have, at least, a scotch, or two...
I'll put them on my credit card,
'cause I'l be gone when payment's due.

The Poet--Oldest Galaxy

Oldest Galaxy
Thirteen point seven billion years,
by scientific gauge,
is how long that the universe
took to set this stage.

And, now they’ve found a galaxy
that damned near saw the Bang.
We don’t know where we’re headed
or if we’ll boomerang.

From micro to the macro
the scientist still search...
when they can find all answers
if they’d just go to church.

The Poet--To The NRA

To the NRA
Each day there are more people shot,
yet, you ask I join your cause.
You say support the Bill of Rights...
but your request has many flaws.

I back our Declaration
for life and liberty.
I do not think that fools with guns
will help keep our land free.

When I wrote about our cliff,
I said that all should compromise.
Your view of our Amendment II
has little I deem wise.

I trust you know I just said ”No.”

The Poet--HSBC

HSBC
Our Gov says they’re “too big to fail”...
that’s why the crooks can’t go to jail.
We sent a message loud and clear...
bank management has naught to fear.
Even when they’re laundering,
our fuzz will keep their record clean.

The Poet--Fare Thee Well, Voyager!

Fare Thee Well, Voyager!

So long ago we prayed, “God speed,”
as you left the launching tower.
And you were quite fast, indeed,
o’er thirty-six thousand miles per hour.

We said, “Goodbye” and not, “adieu,”
for we knew you would not return.
We could not know from your milieu
the heavenly facts that we would learn.

You now confront our System’s rim...
and soon may know what lies beyond,
but, Gates of Hell...or Cherubim...
we yearn to learn what you respond.

The Poet: December 7, 1941

December 7, 1941

Though young I still remember,
how on that fateful day,
the look of shock in mother’s eyes
said our world had turned gray.

Then came the deprivation...
rationing for our army’s needs.
The radio and the cinema
swelled our hearts with their brave deeds.

Resolve and toil helped win that war,
o’er seventy years our land stands free,
but those who bore that world war
know we must watch foes constantly.

Dear President

Dear President,

You said all must cooperate
to save us from the cliff,
but when I hear you on TV
on most things you stay stiff.

The Red is black and Blue is white...
that’s what I hear you say.
But, if you want to solve our plight,
best turn your thoughts toward gray.

The Cliff

The Cliff

The Red and Blue seek CYA
but fail to seek a cure.
Let history decide who’s wrong
but now just help our land endure.

The cliff is our real threat...
not how we reached the precipice.
If the Congress has no answer,
it’s time we should you all dismiss.

Petitions to leave the Union

Petitions to Leave the Union

People who petition
to sever White House ties
in fact are really saying
their peers can’t bare the lies.

The red and blue have voted
in each and every state.
And something I have noted,
their ballots rarely fluctuate.

They vote the same fools in
who made our home a mess,
which only tells me that
peers do not think...just guess.

The process to pick candidates
to vie for public seats
must change and be more rigorous
ere anyone competes.

Age and birth a sorry gauge...
each post requires a special skill.
Test to prove that their head
is not full of chlorophyll .

...voters, too!

Israel and Hamas

Again, the brazen media

are those who now have won.

Thanksgiving

For what can I be thankful
when I peruse the news?
Our world is filled with suffering
and terrorism brews.

I’m thankful I’m American,
where freedoms are assured.
I’m thankful for my kith and kin,
whose love o’er time endured.
I’m thankful for my health...
regardless how I ache.
I’m thankful that God grants me life...
but pray it’s no mistake.

       Global Warming

Do icebergs thaw from aerosol?
The pundits disagree.
They blame rapacious Man for flaw...
or Nature acting damnably.

We should not care who is the host

What matters most is our riposte
anon detoxifies.

The warming is a crisis,
regardless of who caused it all.
Treat the warming and desist
to use the balm that feeds this flaw.

Letter to Both Parties

Letter to Both Parties
Gentlemen:
When you attack your foe
with facts that are quite skewed,
and he responds likewise,
the voters have been screwed.
They now feel  parties back
men of tainted history.
The fact that they are red or blue
does not help salve their misery.

If one must lie to win a seat,
we should not let the cheat compete.

Stop Lights

Stop Lights

Strange, is it not, Man reached the moon
and Mars and orbs in outer space.
With stars and moon Man can attune,
but traffic lights fools cannot pace.

Men time ignition... retro... land,
and never are one second late.
But, the fools who time stop lights
make us waste gas each light and wait.

It seems the physics of the task
doesn’t work on earthly streets.
To quicken distance, time or speed,
putrid planning oft competes.

Too many lights!

and know when things go wrong
that someone had to err.

Yesterday's Debate

Reflect on Yesterday’s Debate

Don’t reflect as blue or red...
or what your parents always said.
Forget the words oft filled with stain...
reflect upon the four-year reign.
Is it but a war yet won,
and peace, in time, for everyone?
Or, do we follow through the maze
repeating our cruel yesterdays?

The debt in four years has surpassed
what all, through time, before amassed.
Our countrymen have suffered so
near half of them are on the dole.

Reflect!

Dancing With the Stars

When judges cull the best from less,
they’re giving you advice.
When you respond of whom you’re fond
your vote is imprecise.

Total Recall
The Governator wrote a book...

And as we read, he says we look
at chapters of his life unfold.

Know, bios can be biased fact,
for as we age all recall dulls.
Life’s shards are oft bemusement packed
and taxing times the brain oft culls.

The heart oft fills reflection’s lack
when truth and twinge with writer vies.
Those subjects that with pain attack,
are those that oft become “True Lies.”

Some will sneer like Fu Man Chu
and try to fake the role.
Others will demand their due
with warlike rigmarole.

Little ploys like snarl and bellow
will work if you’re a bear
but if it’s not within the marrow
impostors should beware.

For those who find you tiresome
may sense your pantomime

oft end with dire remorse.

Circumcision is in the news
though it’s been used for ages.
The German courts say do not use
in baby’s early stages...
must wait until he’s old enough

there can be no incision.

pledge to vow we will not let

The Middle Class

The Middle Class

The leaders of the red and blue
say they love the middle class.
Strange that’s where some started, too,
but since then they did wealth amass.

They don’t share my mayhem
to keep one’s head afloat.
I very rarely hear from them
until they want my vote.

I’ll tell you how to save me now...
as my nest egg fast decays.
Please, no longer tax endow

Ensure our taxes aren’t misspent...
imprison all who do.

Our mores should never become less.

The Conventions

The Conventions

I could not listen every hour...
my ears quite soon wore out.
Apple pie and Chevrolet
get tiresome when they shout.

Platitudes with attitudes
can turn what’s sweet to sour...
especially if a simple thought
is prated for an hour.

Romney and Obama
are known good family men,
but when repeated o’er and o’er
I start to count to ten.

I question all the data
oft skewed to taint the facts...
when foes react with bias
I must weigh two abstracts.

I’m faced with a decision...
the record and the pledge.
One feels his plan will work o’er time...
the other wants to use a sledge.

Labor Day

Labor Day

It’s just another holiday?
You should read the tale
of how the Pullman strike
made U.S. pols turn pale.

The government reacted
with soldiers and police.
The workers had a wildcat strike...
made commerce almost cease.

The Prez knew angry workers
must be mollified.
He pledged to them a holiday
to honor those that died.

Now Labor Day is many things
as summer fun is over.
We should cease to wear white clothes...
even your dog Rover.

Soon school will start, vacations end,
sure, picnic and have fun.
But, remember as you play,
the workforce this day won.

Compromise

When I read the red and blue
response to others’ plans,
I have to wonder what the hell
 leached bile into their glands.
I can surmise what most will do
I have watched them all four years.
And, I tell you here and now

I’m tired of hearing perverse lies
that make both parties suspect.
For whom I vote must compromise
till soupcon less than perfect.

Like Diogenes, I still search.
