The Poet-June Comes

June
We honor fathers and the Flag,
on sandy beaches lollygag.
Ardent swains to their love croon...
take bride and hide on honeymoon.
Snowbirds leave to beat the heat...
but, comes the snow to south retreat.
Fools head north for somewhere cool...
they need but find the closest pool.

The Poet-Tobacco

Tobacco
Read the package, smokes can kill,
but gov’s at ease to tax them more.
A drug that oft defeats one’s will...
like heroin and many more.
They that manufacture still
hard lobby those who make our laws.
Those fools respond to Mammon’s trill...
for whom you vote implies applause.

The Poet-Boffins' Bode

Boffins’ Bode
In summer’s heat, when roasting,
I’d lounge around a pool,
bikinied women toasting
with Mai tais to be cool.
I’d sip cold alcoholic drinks
‘til, boffins said, “You fool,
your precious body moisture shrinks
you’re best off in the pool.”
So then I basked in anything
with water that is cool,
but boffins say that people spread
pestilence, pee and pooh.

Now, I laze beside a pool
and drink a cool Mai tai.
Still watch bikinied women too...
a better way to die.

The Poet-Retire Within!

Retire Within!
There’s none can tell you where retire...
the heart alone can choose.
Many give you their advice,
but, most don’t face adieus.
To choose a place where kin abide
may seem to most relate.
But in few years they may reside
within another state.
Taxes, temps and parasites
may urge you on your way...
but, that which brings you most delights
should weigh the choice this day.

The Poet-Motherhood-

Motherhood
Motherhood is recognized each May
for throughout time no other has such sway.
Who else, but her, devoted all her life
to shelter you from all that could cause strife.
And who applauds each milestone you pass…
and kiss the many scars you might amass.
The second Sunday that will fall each May
gives you the chance to Mother’s Love repay.

The Poet-My Birthday

My Birthday
I was born the eighth of May...
many, many years ago.
I was bathed with gifts that day...
immersed now in youth’s afterglow.

The Poet-Immigants

Immigrants
The Émigrés were welcomed here
when they proved they’d live as one.
They passed a test to verify
they knew our mores and would shun none.
They had to learn our language
in order to converse.
They had to prove they had no link
with anything perverse.
Eleven million now reside
illegally upon our land.
They say because their families grieved,
we must their actions understand.
They now demand they’re citizens
because of all the years they’ve stayed...
but could some even now succeed
to pass the test they prayed delayed?

The Poet-Politicos

Politicos
You’ve answered true each time they asked
what are the nation’s major woes.
Now you should view the laws they’ve passed...
you may just rue the votes you’ve cast.

The Poet-May

May
I always love the month of May
for Spring is at its heyday.
The birds and bees and hes and shes
no longer hug to beat the freeze.
All sense that love has filled the air,
and all can find it...if they dare.
You need not dance around the “pole”,
nor bare your bod...just loose your soul.
