Labor Day

Labor Day

It’s just another holiday?
You should read the tale
of how the Pullman strike
made U.S. pols turn pale.

The government reacted
with soldiers and police.
The workers had a wildcat strike...
made commerce almost cease.

The Prez knew angry workers
must be mollified.
He pledged to them a holiday
to honor those that died.

Now Labor Day is many things
as summer fun is over.
We should cease to wear white clothes...
even your dog Rover.

Soon school will start, vacations end,
sure, picnic and have fun.
But, remember as you play,
the workforce this day won.

In The News-Celebs (Prince Harry....etal.)

Celebs
{Prince Harry...etal}

Paparazzi line your path
with cell phones and the like.
You run a gauntlet every time
 you emulate a tyke.

The paparazzi, in this case,
are merely common folk...
who feel you breach their mores
and fellow man provoke.

To shy from notoriety
obey all local laws,
and if those near have cell phones,
take care...don’t bare your flaws.

In The News-Norway

Norway
{Anders Behring Breivik}

Seventy-seven strangers died
to crusade an opinion.
Twenty-one years the penalty
proclaimed from that dominion.

Remove your blindfold Justice...
you’ve made their judges dumb and blind.
Reveal to them, in any code,
four months per death is asinine

In The News-Todd Akin

Todd Akin

Todd Akin made an error.
He talked outside his field.
Now Democrats are loving the
naïveté he revealed.

They now say he hates women…
like all Republicans.
Republicans say Todd must go…
regardless of his many fans.

All must take care of what they stir
and what’s made precedent.
If those who err must leave the stage,
some pols may soon lament.

It’s best that those who seek our vote
say naught that a foe can misquote.

To the NRA

To the NRA

It’s past time that the NRA
proves it has some sense.
Recognize men can be prey
and soon may be past tense.
Sure, hunt for bear or hare or grouse
and mount it on your wall,
but you don’t need a Tommy gun
to make the critter fall.
Come, support the rest of us
who do not stalking bolster...
we may have fewer maniacs
on a wanted poster.

Compromise

Compromise

When I read the red and blue
response to others’ plans,
I have to wonder what the hell
 leached bile into their glands.
I can surmise what most will do
I have watched them all four years.
And, I tell you here and now
as voter I’m near tears.
I’m tired of hearing perverse lies
that make both parties suspect.
For whom I vote must compromise
till soupcon less than perfect.

Like Diogenes, I still search.

Why?

We placed men on the distant moon
by calling forth our very best.

We challenged them to visit Mars...
and, with time, they passed the test.

We now let fine minds walk the streets,
when our nation is distressed.

Why?

My Olympic Goodbye

My Olympic Goodbye

Olympic Games are over,
the torch is now at rest.
Athletes vied to prove to all
they stand above the rest
.
You that did, or did not, win
bronze, silver or the gold
return now to your countries...
with fame pealed out tenfold.

You’ve proven dedication
can solve most worldly plights...
now dedicate your prowess
toward peace in the floodlights.

Libor, JP Morgan Chase Bank...etal (Redux)

Libor, JP Morgan Chase...etal (redux)

I just cannot trust banks
no matter where I chose.
With Libor and Chase Bank ...etal,
their gambling can my savings lose.
The price to live keeps rising...
the interest rates do not.
Yet, Gov will tax to save the banks
regardless what they plot.
Should hide cash ‘neath my waterbed...
not worry banks from honor stray.
And, if my mattress springs a leak,
my funds decay...either way.

Somewhere in our laissez faire
can’t we protect one’s derriere.

In The News-Government Pamphlets

Government pamphlets

I just perused the pamphlet
that helps choose candidates.
Half of it in English...
half Español translates.

Since thoughts may not convert
exactly to conform,
it’s cheaper and more meaningful
to have all learn the norm.

In The News-Mars' Curiosity

Curiosity

NASA sent a vehicle
all the way to Mars.
If life lives there, perhaps we can
sell them some bizarre sports cars.

If there’s no one to see it,
then pray it won’t get lost...
for it must assay everything
to recompense its cost.

In The News-Astronomy

Astronomy

The universe is dangerous…
we better strategize.
The black holes and the vampire stars
slay suns before our eyes.
We cringed at dodging meteors
and ducking gamma rays,
but now we have the meaner guys
on ravenous forays.

In The News-To The Candidate

To the Candidate

If you would be my serving man,
do not but smear the other guy.
I say, respond with Kipling’s plan,
reveal what you deem went awry…
and when and how, with what, and where
you’ll solve the problems you declare.

In The News-New AZ Laws

New AZ Laws

Three hundred sixty bills, and more,
the Governor has signed.
And, many of them I have read
seem from a deranged mind.

Hunters can use silencers…
guns endless bullets store.
They who cannot hit their prey
should at least shout “Fore.”

A business that conducts a test
to see if it pollutes
doesn’t have to tell a soul…
and thus avoids lawsuits.

These, but two, of many laws
that do not safeguard me…
imply to me politicos
pass on absurdity.
