The Poet-Olympics (Contests)

The Contests
Participants (and they that view)
condone the measures that are used
...allow subjective laws to rule
and limits that are oft confused.
They know vague measures tilt and sway
but grant the gauge to biased few.
They merely hope they win the day
within the minds that they would woo.

The Poet-Olypians

Olympians
As I watch Olympic games,
and hear the stories there,
I must admire that you compete
with all the pressures you must bear.
All your efforts to excel.
All the pain from muscles torn.
Are the medals that you seek
just payment for the load you’ve borne?
And when you wake to face your foes,
body aching, mind in stress,
you rise to face the cruel unknowns
that the milieu may possess.
Win, or lose, your feat lives on...
until your strength of will is gone.

The Poet-A Valentine

A Valentine
For those most dear within your heart,
there is no special day.
For every tender, thoughtful act,
will send your love their way.

To succor them and comfort them
when dreams have gone awry,
will let them know no seed’s fallow...
let Time decide when they should cry.

When they excel and passions soar
such that they fly too high,
praise, but hold them close to you,
‘till their wings in stillness lie.

Or merely state you miss them
and wish that they were near...
extend the hand of fellowship
and pray for them good cheer.

Send kith and kin such Valentine
and love will ever intertwine.

The Poet-New Residents"

New Residents?
I now hear that the President
has just made a new precedent.
If you but aid a terrorist,
you may become resident.

Does that mean that the man,
who succors a foul plan,
may really have no guilt...
if he merely drives the van?

The Poet-Rosemont Mine AZ

Rosemont Mine, AZ (redux)
Since local voters now decline
to accept the copper mine,
our pols have drafted a bill
to change the county’s border line.
The reason for the voters angst
remains, though pens may make lines wend,
And come the Fall, the voters all
may not deem them as their friend.

The Poet-Punxsutawney Phil

Punxsutawney Phil
The people of PA.
have the nerve to say
that Punxsutawney Phil
knows how long that we’ll feel chill.

Now he has looked and found no shade,
a big mistake I say he made.
For six more weeks in winter's mill,
and Phil could end up as roadkill.
