The Laureate-2018 New Year's Eve Toast

2018 New Year’s Eve Toast

This day my New Year’s Toast
will sound more like a Friar’s Roast...
if I can stir a little wit
to get some humor out of it.

Our Prez spent his time writing Tweets
that never read like Donne or Keats.
The Pols would blame the other hue
for what went wrong the whole year through.

We had a vote to make our choice
but perps still  try to still our voice.
Say what you will about this year
but we, at least, don’t live in fear.

The Laureate-New Year...Same Fear

New Year...Same Fear

A year ago a babe was born
and through his year was always mean.
O’er time our love for him was worn
because of morals too obscene.
I blame it on his parents,
seven billion strong.
Some live in houses, some in tents,
and tend to quarrel all year long.
One can’t mature with good mores
if parents always fight.
One can not make it through the maze
if millions question what is right.
We soon will have another child
when this New Year makes its call,
and he will turn out just as wild
if the parents always brawl.

The Laureate-A New Year Is Near

A New Year Is Near

A few more days...another year.
Let’s toast and sing to Auld Lang Syne.
Keep good friends near and never fear
for then good days will intertwine.

The Laureate-Cyrano de Bergerac

Cyrano de Bergerac {Edmond Rostand}

Lessons flow from Cyrano.
I would, I could be him.
He’d brook no blow from crass ego
from those who injured at a whim.

He’d draw his sword upon wrong word
to still the haughty tongue.
He’d state in rhyme what was the crime
and after the poem...he stung.

Although his heart was filled with love,
Roxane had wed a man who died.
A loosed log rained death from above...
last words divulged her spouse had lied.

Oh Cyrano! I do, like you,
use lines that flow within my heart
to send a message to imbue
that bullies must not fear impart.
But I use quill instead of sword
and pray ink drowns them in each word.

The Laureate-Prez Visits Iraq

Prez Visits Iraq

When the Prez talked to his army,
he deigned to dis the democrats.
He should be there to ease their care,
instead he riles them with false stats.
{Those who malign borderline the asinine.}

The Laureate-Arrogant President

Arrogant President

What happened to the GOP?
What happened to their voice?
You were not chosen by the Prez.
You were the voters choice.
{Know when you bow, or you kowtow...
you are to some abhorrent.}

The Laureate-Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve

It’s Christmas eve...forgot a gift,
and Santa’s left for this day’s shift.
But, since it’s for the Son of God
my love for Him will get his nod.

The Laureate-Shutdown or Shakedown?

Shutdown or Shakedown

If not consistent when you talk,
are we to note your last words said?
You take a stand...and then you balk...
better for all you think ahead.
{We greet each tweet as words effete.}

The Laureate-The Prez...Another Lie!

Prez...Another Lie!

The Prez says he’s a genius
I find that too tough to accept.
Thirty, or more, hired for his House
would crime abet or just inept.
{He’s not in genius genus.}

The Laureate-News Issues

News Issues

Like carnivores upon the gnus
reporters leap upon the news.
So quickly is it ripped and shred,
the truth’s ensconced in residues.
{It is not fake, just still opaque.}

The Laureate-The Caravan

The Caravan

We watched them as they climbed our wall.
Millions of us saw some fall.
Our Prez it seems did but applaud,
but all must answer to our God.

Prez would build walls long and strong,
said Mexico will pay for it.
As usual the Prez is wrong.
He will tax us...the hypocrite.

The Laureate-The Wall...that's all!

The Wall...that’s all!

Again the Prez is in a snit.
Again this land may suffer.
He’ll get his wall or Gov will pall...
our duffer will act dumber.

The Laureate-The Season's Siren

The Season’s Siren

The most precious gifts this season
are the words that flow from kith and kin.
Your sphere of friends heard the siren,
and cards were sent with love within.

Reflect on each gift you receive.
Feel their warmth within the card.
Though kismet forced some friends to leave,
the flow of love is never barred.

The Laureate-Another Trump Bump

Another Trump Bump

Finally Ryan Zinke moves on.
I can’t believe how long it took.
His ethics have been oft questioned
because he acts just like a crook.
{Put locks on the poor box.}

The Laureate-Park it in the Market.

Park it in the Market!

My money is in the Market.
It follows the Prez’ fiscal plan
There is no where else to park it
that he has not screwed up for man.

The Laureate-A Taste Of Space

A Taste of Space

Virgin Galactic has made it to space,
at least flew 50 miles from earth.
They're talking tourism in boldface...
but rich alone can pay for berth.
{I guess I’ll stick with Uber.}

The Laureate-A Midterm Vote Note

A Midterm Vote Note
Florida, N. Dakota, Georgia et al

The Constitution’s Bill of Rights
says citizens are guaranteed
that they can vote without the plights
when biased people intercede.
{Rejecting any proof of citizenship should be a crime.}

The Laureate-Blackball Prez Wall

Blackball Prez Wall

Prez loves his Bully Pulpit.
He loves the power in the seat.
He cares not if he’s right or wrong...
his threats make logic obsolete.

He will shut down the government
for nothing more than at his whim...
then say to build his border wall,
e’en though our debt pours o’er the brim.
{About time he struck out.}

Observe the Puppet

If Prez were like Pinocchio
every time he tells a lie,
all within his base would know
his crows grow when his truths belie.

Microplastics

It’s in our salt and ocean fish.
It could be spice on every dish.
We only know it’s a no-no...
that may in time cause us anguish.

The Laureate-Listen 12818

Listen! 12818

We’ve problems with Earth’s temperature.
Our food is filled with deadly germs.
The ocean is packed with plastics,
and Prez, with facts, can’t come to terms.

Prez, listen to the scientists...
you tell us you are smart.
But as a genius you should know
to put a horse before the cart.

The Laureate-No Loophole for Coal

No Loophole for Coal
(Flush EPA down Trump’s bidet)

To serve your base you sponsor coal,
but the air, I’m sure you know,
is breathed by all within this land
and noxious fumes to them you’d dole.
(And the onus of their suffering is on the Prez.)

The Laureate-The New Year

The New Year

It matters not your name for God,
nor if you feel no God to fear.
It matters only this year ends...
and that we all hold dear.

Our needs, our goals are close to same.
Let’s join together when we pray
to let it e’er become our aim
all live in peace each day.

The Laureate-Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

We hear this Season’s call to all,
the urge to bond...let hearts be gay.
Time flips his page as last sand’s fall,
a moment’s pause... New Year’s birthday.

So let us celebrate and share
the joy this Season brings,
and pray our kith and kin are heir
to all the love that from it springs.

The Laureate-Research

Research

Some have looked back four thousand years
to find why we now walk this path.
Some also crave to watch Big Bang
to see if God loosed good or wrath.

I feel we would be better served
if we could cure the psychopath.

The Laureate-Waste Helped Haste

Waste Helped Haste
{Florida to London Flight}

Across the pond, perhaps beyond,
with fuel they laced with waste,
Cal’s LanzaTech, with secret spec,
says process can be used posthaste.

They exploit carbon emissions
from our manufacturing sites.
Microbes and some new renditions
may be used on many flights.

We can use less of fossil fuels
if billionaires don’t mask the tools.

NASA’s Insight

Congratulations NASA
for landing safe on Mars!
You proved again your spacecrafts
are safer than our cars.

I really hope the Insight
can drill into the dirt.

God knows what tweet he’ll blurt.

The Laureate-Thanksgiving Prayer

Thanksgiving Prayer!

Oh God, who can in space deploy
the Suns and Earth and Man,
and for the food we’ll soon enjoy,
we’ll thank you best we can.

You ask but love in payment...
dear God, that is an easy task.
We know our love is heaven sent
when we do that You ask.

The Laureate-Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

For what can I be thankful
when I peruse the news?
Our world is filled with suffering
and terrorism brews.

I’m thankful I’m American,
where freedoms are assured.
I’m thankful for my kith and kin,
whose love o’er time endured.
I’m thankful for my health...
regardless how I ache.
I’m thankful God grants me a wife
who ever will our true-love slake.

The Laureate-The Prez' Truth

The Prez’ Truth

The Prez says what press says is fake
and you should not one word partake.
So you should really read his tweets
and copy all his candid treats.
Remember what and how what’s said
and where, to whom, and why.
Was he smiling, or bursting red...
and later all deny.
Subtract all braggadocio,
he can’t remember facts.
But the truth that you need know
rarely, if ever, interacts.
Avant-garde
from the bard.

The Laureate-The Path

The Path

Few strive life-long to preach God’s word,
but kindly acts you do can teach.
Children and friends are often stirred
when tenderness is within reach.
Priests and Dervish and old Rabbi
pray that we all share that virtue.
Love fellow man...or at least try,
and you will find love follows you.
Everyone should set a goal.
God’s words have lined the path.
Wealth and power you should know
oft brings to fore internal wrath.
Keep life simple, not complex.
The well-worn paths have fewer wrecks.
