The Laureate-Media Threats

Dear Judge:
The quill can stroke; can wound; can cleave.
It can inspire, instruct, deceive.
A weapon with unholy force
when used to stir what fiends conceive.
The First Amendment grants free speech
regardless where the words may reach.
But, if words wound maliciously,
does not intent that guide impeach?

The Laureate-My Dad (In Memoriam)

Each day when he came home from work
Mom would tell him of our sins.
She’d have him mete the punishment
before his needed rest begins.

But bless his soul we all would know
his belt would never touch our skin.
He’d signal us when we should cry
and we would gladly raise a din.

The passions that he showed to us
was not was not a hug or kiss.
‘Twas smile or scowl within his eyes
when acts excelled or were remiss.

And, when I left to fight a war
and knew not where next home would be,
he looked me in the eyes and said,
“A home resides in reverie.”

The Laureate-The VA Crime

The VA Crime
At best the act’s malfeasance.
Perps cooking books with false pretense.
Do as Hammurabi would
keep their jail-time in suspense.

The Laureate-Be Wary of Next Precedent

Be tutored by illegal pot...
law eased for meds, then changed a lot..
Welcome the illegal youths,
and perps within will surely plot.

The Laureate-D-Day

D-Day
On this day in Forty-four,
seventy years ago,
our soldiers stormed the beaches
the Nazis vowed they’d ne’re let go.

Some gave their lives to free us all.
So vow our freedoms seized that day
will be embraced, and held so close
there’s none can wrench their gift away.

The Laureate-The Swap

Dear Prez:
Yes, we must bring our soldiers back,
but what you’ve done set most aback.
You saved one man, but freed five foes...
now heroes to join in their attack.
(at poker best never ante.)

The Laureate-June

June
Added warmth will fill June’s air...
fathers, Flag and nuptials share
passion’s feverous flow that’s loosed
on those for whom we truly care.
